Met to face Swansea City in cup final

Women's League Cup Final

The final of the Orchard Welsh Premier Women’s League Cup will see reigning champions Cardiff Met aiming to lift the trophy for a fourth time when they take on Swansea City in the 2019-20 final at Newport’s Dragon Park on 29 March.

In yesterday’s semi-final derby, Met gained revenge with a 5-3 shoot-out win against Cardiff City, who had knocked the students out of the FAW Cup four days earlier.

A 19th-minute goal by Erin Murray had put the students on course for the final until Kate Jeremiah struck Cardiff City in the 85th minute, taking the game into extra-time.

Lucy Finch re-established Met’s advantage after 110 minutes but the Bluebirds’ Catherine Walsh fired back six minutes later to force penalties, Met winning 5-3.

In the other semi-final Swansea City beat Port Talbot 3-0, with Shaunna Jenkins scoring after 34 minutes. Two quick-fire second-half goals from Sarah Adams (54) and Katy Hosford (57) sealed the victory for the Swans.

This season saw a new format for the League Cup, with the first and second rounds replaced by a group stage to decide the semi-finalists.
