Two from three in play-off showdown

Play-off Race

Wednesday night promises to be an exciting evening in South Wales, when football fans will be glued to TVs, radios and phones eager to follow developments in the final round of games in the Championship season.

Both the Bluebirds and Swans have it all to play for with just three points separating the sides… and Nottingham Forest also level on points with Neil Harris’ Cardiff. So it’s down to two out of three for a crack at the play-offs.

Forest host in-form Stoke at the City ground, while the Bluebirds take on Hull City, who have lost their last five Championship games… conceding eight against Wigan during that dismal run which has left them with only the slenderest hopes of beating the drop to League One.

The Swans head to Reading knowing only a win will do for a miracle at the City Ground or Cardiff City Stadium to catapult them into the play-off places.

A win for the Swans and defeat for the Bluebirds would see Steve Cooper’s side jump into the top six on goal difference, while Forest currently hold the upper hand in that department… four better than Cardiff and five ahead of Swansea.

The automatic promotion place alongside champions Leeds is also still up for grabs, with just two points separating second-placed West Brom from chasers Brentford and Fulham.

So it’s any four of six teams to contest the play-offs, with Brentford at 11/8 to win the shooting match to secure Premier League football next season. Fulham are at 9/4, Forest 11/2 and West Brom 12/1 since the second automatic spot is theirs to throw away against Queen’s Park Rangers.

The Bluebirds are at 13/2, with a Swansea miracle priced up at 66/1… anyone brave or mad enough to take the odds?
