Bosnia next on the agenda for U21s

The finals of the 2019-21 Uefa European Under-21 Championships will be played in two stages following the rescheduling of the football calendar due to the Covid19 pandemic.

The group stage will take place from 24-31 March 2021, while the knockout phase will run from 31 May to 6 June. The original venues of Hungary and Slovenia will still host both parts of the final tournament.

The qualification competition which is currently underway will finish in September, October and November this year, with the nine group-winners and the five best runners-up joined by hosts Hungary and Slovenia for the group stage.

The four group-winners and the four runners-up will then qualify for the final tournament which will be played as a straight knockout.

Wales are currently in third place in Group 9, a point behind Belgium and level with Germany who have a game in hand. The other teams in the group are Bosnia and Moldova.

With four games remaining, Wales head to Bosnia on 4 September before a trip to Belgium on 9 October. Next up is a home game against Moldova on 13 November followed by Germany away four days later.

In the European Under-19 Championships, the elite round will now take place from 31 August to 8 September. Wales host Group 1, which also includes Austria, Germany and Serbia.

The pool winners will join hosts Northern Ireland in the final tournament which will be split over two periods. The group stage featuring two groups of four teams will be held from 8-14 October.

The two group-winners and the two runners-up will qualify for the finals, with the two third-placed teams participating in a play-off match to determine the fifth team to qualify for the Fifa Under-20 World Cup. All final matches will be played in Northern Ireland from 9-18 November.
