Icons: Jamie Moralee

Jamie Moralee started his career at Crystal Palace and spent 11 seasons floating around Football League sides until former Eagles colleague Peter Nicholas signed him for Barry Town from Colchester United in 2000.

Before his arrival at Barry, Moralee bagged 20 goals in 76 appearances for Millwall over two seasons from 1992-94 as they nearly gained promotion from Division One to the Premier League under Mick McCarthy. He also played for Watford, Crewe Alexandra and Brighton, as well as having a brief spell in Belgium with Royal Antwerp.

Moralee spent three years with Barry, winning the Welsh Premier-Welsh Cup double on each occasion. His goal in a 2–0 win over TNS secured the title in 2001. He was also involved in three Champions League campaigns with the club.

Although Barry lost 4-2 on aggregate to Macedonian side Vardar in the first qualifying round in 2003-04, Moralee scored the winner in the 2-1 victory in the second leg at Jenner Park.

Barry went down 6-0 to Latvian opponents Skonto at the same stage in 2002-03 but reached the second qualifying round in 2001-02 after becoming the first Welsh Premier team to win a Champions League tie after seeing off Shamkir of Azerbaijan 3-0.

That win set up a tie against Portuguese giants Porto in the next round and despite losing the first leg 8-0 in Porto, Barry pulled off a famous victory in the second leg at Jenner Park, recording a 3-1 win against a side including Ricardo Carvalho and Helder Postiga.

Barry’s financial difficulties in 2003 saw Moralee leave Jenner Park and he had spells with Forest Green Rovers, Newport County and Chelmsford City before calling time on his playing career in 2006. In 88 appearances for Barry Moralee scored 59 goals and won three doubles.
