Icons: Lee Trundle

After learning his trade in the English lower leagues, Lee Trundle arrived in the Welsh Premier at Rhyl for the 2000-01 season. He made 18 appearances for the Lilywhites and scored 15 goals.

But his stay at Belle Vue was short-lived, a hat-trick in a friendly against Wrexham brought a swift departure to the League Two side, managed by Brian Flynn, in February 2001.

After two years and 27 goals in 94 appearances for Wrexham, ‘Magic Daps’ followed Flynn to Swansea City where he became a cult hero and Soccer AM favourite thanks to his silky skills and audacious tricks.

During his four-year spell with the Swans, Trundle scored 78 goals in 146 appearances before becoming the first £1m footballer to emerge from the Welsh Premier when he signed for Bristol City in 2007.

After loan spells with Leeds and back with the Swans, Trundle made his return to the Welsh Premier in 2010 at Neath. He netted 29 goals for the Eagles in two seasons before the club’s financial woes saw him leave for Preston North End.

Further stops on Trundle’s football journey took him to Chester and Marine before he joined Llanelli in the Welsh League. Back-to-back promotions saw the Reds return to the Welsh Premier, Trundle grabbing 86 goals in 59 games.

The Reds’ return to Wales’ top flight in 2018 saw Trundle move on again, signing in May for Haverfordwest County at the age of 41. Could his goals also fire the Bluebirds back to the Welsh Premier?
