Icons: Marc Lloyd Williams

Marc Lloyd Williams started his Welsh Premier career at Porthmadog but hit the heights in the 2001-02 season when his 47 goals for Bangor made him Europe’s leading goalscorer.

He was voted player of the year by Welsh Premier managers and his exploits would have earned him the European Golden Boot had Wales enjoyed a higher Uefa coefficient… instead Sporting Lisbon’s Mario Jardel took the accolade.

The league’s all-time top marksman, ‘Jiws’ netted 319 goals in 468 Welsh Premier appearances, bagging 29 hat-tricks and winning the title three times… with TNS (twice) and Bangor.

Williams also represented Aberystwyth Town, Newtown, Rhyl and Airbus UK in the Welsh Premier, before finishing up in the Welsh Alliance with Llanberis in a career that spanned 20 years.

‘Jiws’ won the Welsh Cup with Bangor and TNS, and the Welsh Premier golden boot twice in 2001-02 and 2004-05. He even won a Norwegian First Division championship medal during a loan spell with Haugesund.

Williams’ football journey also included spells in the Football League with Stockport, Halifax and York, as well as brief encounters at Altrincham, Southport and Colwyn Bay but it was in the Welsh Premier where he ruled the roost.
