Icons: Steve Evans

After developing his craft as a trainee with Crewe Alexandra and West Bromwich Albion, Steve Evans joined TNS in 1999 and was a cornerstone of the side that won the league title in 2000.

One of the Welsh Premier’s most prominent players, he led the Saints to the double in 200405 as they won the Welsh Premier league and Welsh Cup, Evans being crowned the league’s player of the year.

In seven successful years with the club, including a season out on loan at Oswestry, Evans clinched a second championship in 2006 before he was signed up by Wrexham boss Denis Smith.

The 6ft 4in defender made such an impression at the Racecourse that John Toshack selected him for Wales and he went on to secure seven senior caps, making his international debut in a friendly against Liechtenstein in November 2006.

In September 2008, with Wrexham relegated from the Football League, Evans became the first non-league player to represent Wales for 76 years as a second-half substitute in a 2–1 defeat in Russia.

Evans scored seven times in more than 80 games for the Dragons but moved back to TNS in 2009, collecting another championship in 2010 and a fourth title and a second double in 2012. In 2014-15 he was loaned out to Connah’s Quay and in 271 Welsh Premier games in all he bagged 41 goals.
