Tier 4 league structure comes together

The confirmation of the Central Wales Football Association (CWFA) line-ups for the Mid Wales West and Mid Wales East leagues has completed the tier four structure of the Welsh football pyramid for the 2020-21 season.

The CWFA has announced that 13 clubs will compete in the Mid Wales League East, with nine clubs participating in Mid Wales League West. They join the South Wales Alliance, Gwent County League and West Wales Premier from the south; and the North Wales Coast East and West leagues, and North East Wales League in the north; in forming the structure below the tier-three regional leagues.

The Mid Wales League East will see Brecon Corinthians, Bishop’s Castle, Churchstoke, Radnor Valley, Waterloo Rovers, Newbridge, Llanfyllin Town, Knighton Town, Presteigne, Llansantffraid Village, Builth Wells, Abermule and Forden United chasing honours in the coming season.

Meanwhile the nine clubs in Mid Wales League West will include Dolgellau Athletic, Tywyn Bryncrug, Barmouth and Dyffryn United, Dyffryn Banw, Borth United, Aberystwyth University, Tregaron Turfs, Aberaeron and Newcastle Emlyn.

With the Premier Division of the Welsh National League (Wrexham Area) being incorporated into the regional third tier of Welsh football, division one of the league is now the fourth-tier North East Wales League Premier Division comprised of 16 teams. They include: Acton FC, Brymbo Victoria, Castell Alun, Cefn Mawr Rangers, Chirk Town, Coedpoeth United, FC Queen’s Park, Greenfield, Halkyn & Flint Mountain, Hawarden Rangers, Johnstown Youth, Lex XI, Llangollen Town, Mynydd Isa Spartans, New Brighton Villa and Overton Recretational.

The former North East Wales League becomes the North East Wales League Championship.

The North Wales Coast East League replaces the former Vale of Clwyd and Conwy Football League with 16 teams competing in the Premier Division. They include: Bro Cernyw, Glan Conwy, Kinmel Bay, Llandudno Athletic, Llandudno Junction, Llandyrnog United, Llanfairfechan Town, Llannefydd, Llansannan, Meliden, Mochdre Sports, NFA, Penmaenmawr Phoenix, Prestatyn Sports, Rhuddlan Town and Y Rhyl 1879.

The North Wales Coast West League replaces the former Gwynedd and Anglesey leagues with 16 teams again competing in the Premier Division. They include: Aberffraw, Amlwch Town, Bangor 1876, Bodedern Athletic, Bro Goronwy, Gaerwen, Gwalchmai, Llanberis, Llanrug United, Menai Bridge Tigers, Mynydd Llandegai, Nefyn United, Penrhyndeudraeth, Pentraeth, Pwllheli and Trearddur Bay Bulls.

The West Wales Premier, formed to represent teams from the Carmarthenshire, Pembrokeshire, Neath and Swansea leagues ahead of the inaugural 2020-21 season, will see 12 teams taking part… four each from the Carmarthenshire, Neath and Swansea leagues, with the Pembrokeshire league not represented.

CK Swiss Valley, Evans & Williams and Pontarddulais have all joined from the Carmarthenshire League Premier Division; while Morriston Town, Mumbles Rangers and Penlan have all stepped up from the Swansea Senior League.

Cwm Wanderers, Giants Grave, Severn Sisters and Ystradgynlais have all joined from the Neath League; with Dafen Welfare of Carmarthen’s Division One and South Gower of the Swansea League’s Division Two being fast-tracked to the fourth level of Welsh football having come from the sixth tier.

With sides moving up into the tier-three regional leagues the South Wales Alliance and Gwent County leagues have been restructured accordingly with Aberdare Town, Aber Valley, Baglan Dragons, Blaenrhondda, Bridgend Street, Canton Liberal, Cardiff Corinthians, Cardiff Draconians, Cefn Cribwr, FC Cwmaman, Garw SBGC, Llanrumney United, Merthyr Saints, Pencoed Athletic, Porthcawl Town Athletic and Trebanog making up the South Wales Alliance Premier Division.

The Gwent County Premier Division includes Abercarn United, Abertillery Excelsiors, AC Pontymister, Blaenavon Blues, Caerleon, Cwmbran Town, Lliswerry, Newport Civil Service, Newport Corinthians, PILCS, Pill YMCA, RTB Ebbw Vale, Wattsville, Villa Dino Christchurch and Ynysddu Welfare.
